Meet Steve Wilkens, Golden Harvest agronomy manager – Central

Raised on a 4th-generation dairy farm in central Wisconsin, Steve has agricultural roots that run deep and a passion for his industry. He earned his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in agronomy and is a Certified Crop Adviser. He currently manages the central Golden Harvest agronomy team and enjoys working with farmers to help them address their agronomic issues and increase the performance and return on investment of the products they plant. In his free time, Steve enjoys traveling and helping out on the family farm.

While helping farmers handle pest and disease issues is an integral part of Steve’s position, helping them deal with weather has its own challenges. Steve says, “To help set expectations, understand that if you’re moving a short season hybrid into a more full-season maturity zone, you’re going to have to better manage disease and insect pressure. All these other factors come into play.”

To deliver on the Service 365 year-round commitment to doing whatever it takes to optimize yield results, Steve helps farmers overcome challenges and achieve success by remaining open to new strategies and forging a bond of trust. His advice to the farmers in his area is, “Use what has worked in the past, but also keep yourself open to a diverse strategy to prepare for the unknowns. And always rely on those you trust to help you develop that long-term plan.”

In his free time, Steve enjoys traveling, helping on the family farm and cheers on the Packers and Badgers.
