DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., USA, Feb. 24, 2021 – Six farmers throughout Michigan who planted Golden Harvest® corn hybrids earned top honors in the 2020 National Corn Yield Contest, including two first-place victories. Overall, the farmers won six places across three different irrigation and production types statewide in the annual contest conducted by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA).

The top finishers included:

  • First place: Dick Suwyn of Caledonia yielded 287.2089 bu/A with Golden Harvest corn G07F23-3111 hybrid.
  • Second place: Scott Bartz of Dorr yielded 281.4852 bu/A with Golden Harvest corn G07F23-3111 hybrid.
  • Third place: Dale Suwyn of Wayland yielded 279.8246 bu/A with Golden Harvest corn G10D21-3330 E-Z Refuge® hybrid.

As Golden Harvest continues to make significant investments and enhance its hybrid breeding strategy, farmers are seeing tangible results in the company’s corn portfolio, which is helping deliver yield, standability and consistency to support profit potential.

“We tried strip-till for the first time this past year. We gave the crop what it needed, and the field responded very well,” said winning farmer Nick Suwyn.

Farmers who choose Golden Harvest hybrids benefit from a powerful combination of genetics and agronomy, as well as service. The Golden Harvest portfolio is available from Golden Harvest Seed Advisors who combine high-yielding seed options with local agronomic knowledge and deliver a Service 365 year-round commitment to doing whatever it takes to yield results for farmers.

Golden Harvest Seed Advisor Dan Heasley of Heasley Seeds in Byron Center, Michigan, worked with all of this year’s winning Michigan farmers.

“It was no surprise Nick earned a first place. He is a very progressive farmer who always pushes for top yields,” Heasley said. “He managed the G09Y24-3220A hybrid very well, feeding it extra nitrogen and two fungicide applications. Placement was important, too. We worked with him on backing off populations a bit, so it wasn’t too thick. We found the sweet spot, and it did really well.”

Growing Golden Harvest, Nick Suwyn said he feels surrounded by a team he trusts.

“Heasley Seeds gives us good seed recommendations,” he said. “They are seed experts who know our ground and its potential well, and they are part of a team that helps us be successful in farming.”
