Eastern Corn Belt harvest results showcase resilience of Golden Harvest® corn and soybeans

  • Moisture challenges – from too little in some areas to too much in others – didn’t deter Golden Harvest hybrids and varieties from yielding well in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio
  • Agrisure® traits protect genetic potential against many of today’s toughest field threats
  • Golden Harvest Seed Advisors add local knowledge to optimize field placement

MINNETONKA, Minn., USA, Nov. 28, 2017– Eastern Corn Belt farmers faced a range of moisture stresses in 2017, with many seeing too much rain and others not getting nearly enough. Despite these challenges, harvest reports across Indiana, Michigan and Ohio found Golden Harvest® corn and soybeans delivering strong yields.

Powered by broad genetic diversity and high-performing traits and technologies, Golden Harvest hybrids and varieties offer farmers agronomic options for various field types, soil characteristics and weather conditions.

“Almost nobody was happy with the rain this year. Some areas spent all season waiting to catch a break, while others needed it to end. Add to that a dramatic increase in white mold in Michigan, and it was a tricky 2017,” said Eric Anderson, a Golden Harvest agronomist based in Indiana. “Nobody could have predicted in the spring what this year would bring – but as harvest results are proving yet again, when you start off with strong agronomic characteristics like those found in Golden Harvest hybrids and varieties, you’re setting yourself up for success no matter what.”

Golden Harvest corn is bred to perform well in a range of environments, with Agrisure® traits and technologies – including Agrisure Duracade®, Agrisure Viptera® andAgrisure Artesian® – protecting yield potential through proven insect control and water optimization. E-Z Refuge® options provide convenient, integrated single-bag refuge offerings. Top 2017 performers in the Eastern Corn Belt so far include:

  • G09Y24-3220A E-Z Refuge brand, an Artesian™ hybrid that maximizes yield when it rains and increases yield when it doesn’t – offering stable performance in conditions like those experienced this year. Area trials showed the hybrid outyielding all DeKalb® hybrids by an average of 7.6 bushels per acre (bu/A).1
  • G11F16-3111A brand, which yields well across multiple soil types and environments. The hybrid outyielded all DeKalb hybrids in Indiana trials by an average of 4.7 bu/A.2

Golden Harvest also offers soybean producers many proven performance-class varieties across a wide range of relative maturities. These varieties protect against many of today’s toughest challenges, including soybean cyst nematodes, sudden death syndrome, brown stem rot and Phytophthora root rot. Top varieties in the Eastern Corn Belt this season include:

  • GH2041X brand, which provides strong white mold tolerance – helpful given this year’s disease outbreak. Michigan trials saw the variety besting all Asgrow® varieties by an average of 2.8 bu/A.3
  • GH2537X brand, a new variety with strong white mold tolerance and strong standability. It outperformed all Pioneer® varieties by an average of 3.6 bu/A in Michigan trials.4

All Golden Harvest hybrids and varieties are sold exclusively by independent Golden Harvest Seed Advisors, whose local expertise helps identify the best seed-to-field fit to maximize performance. In select geographies, these Seed Advisors also provide access to Enogen® hybrids, featuring an in-seed innovation that benefits farmers marketing grain to ethanol plants and those producing grain or silage for livestock feed. In the ethanol market, Enogen grain enhances the ethanol production process by improving process efficiency, while the same technology increases the value of feed for dairy or beef cattle due to improved fiber and starch digestibility.
