Top finishers recognized in 2022 National Corn Yield Contest hosted by the National Corn Growers Association
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., USA, Jan. 12, 2023 — Ten farmers throughout Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wisconsin who planted Golden Harvest® corn hybrids earned top honors in the 2022 National Corn Yield Contest. Including two first-place victors, the farmers won 10 places across five different irrigation and production types nationwide in the annual contest conducted by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA).
The top finishers included:
- Jack Shissler from Canton, Illinois, won third place in the No-Till Non-Irrigated category for Illinois with Golden Harvest corn G15J91-V brand with a yield of 302.2672 bu/A.
- Nathan Baker from Waldron, Michigan, won second place in the Conventional Irrigated category for Michigan with Golden Harvest corn G12S75-D brand with a yield of 281.5891 bu/A.
- Cole Baker from Ashton, Nebraska, won second place in the Conventional Non-Irrigated category for Nebraska with Golden Harvest corn G10L16-DV brand with a yield of 208.8882 bu/A.
- Lance and Kemp MaKeeff from Minot, North Dakota, won second place in the No-Till Irrigated category for North Dakota with Golden Harvest corn G80Q01-V brand with a yield of 185.6179 bu/A.
- Murray Pfau from Upham, North Dakota, won third place in the No-Till Non-Irrigated category for North Dakota with Golden Harvest corn G80Q01-V brand with a yield of 167.7520 bu/A.
- Chris Hoffman from Williston, North Dakota, won third place in the Strip, Min, Mulch, Ridge-Till Irrigated category for North Dakota with Golden Harvest corn G84J92-AA brand with a yield of 126.1335 bu/A.
- Steve Knorr from Coleharbor, North Dakota, won third place in the Conventional Irrigated category for North Dakota with Golden Harvest corn G80Q01-V brand with a yield of 205.3230 bu/A.
- Ben Turzinski from Almond, Wisconsin, won first place in the No-Till Irrigated category for Wisconsin with Golden Harvest corn G02K39-AA brand with a yield of 263.0799 bu/A.
- John Stasiak from Holmen, Wisconsin, won first place in the Strip, Min, Mulch, Ridge-Till Irrigated category for Wisconsin with Golden Harvest corn G11V76-D brand with a yield of 233.2296 bu/A.
- Brad and Dave Luck from Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, won third place in the Strip, Min, Mulch, Ridge-Till Irrigated category for Wisconsin with Golden Harvest corn G03R40-DV brand with a yield of 196.7768 bu/A.

He says Golden Harvest corn G15J91-V brand was the cream of his crop this year.
“I grew G15J91-V two years ago in a test plot; and after it won my plot by a landslide against competitors, I couldn’t wait to plant it again this year,” said Shissler, a sixth generation farmer. “The corn had a perfect stand throughout the season. I never saw one stalk bent over the whole harvest. I’ll be upping how much I plant again in 2023. My results are definitely turning heads in my area. Coming from my family, who owned a seed company for 50 years, this is a big deal. It was very good corn for me this year, and I believe in it.”

“They know my fields as well as I know them, and they have the technology to make management more precise,” explained Shissler. “For example, one time I wondered about a corn population; and they flew a drone, took 10 samples and had the exact population.
