Kingman, Indiana farmer wins $10,000 toward Golden Harvest® seed, Precision Planting® equipment

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., USA, Oct. 18, 2019 – Wrapping up a busy July and August of agronomic training, Golden Harvest and Precision Planting® announced Kingman, Indiana farmer Rod Crum as the winner of $10,000 in prizes.

The reward, which includes $5,000 toward Golden Harvest® seed and $5,000 toward Precision Planting equipment, was the result of a random drawing for attendees of five training sessions co-hosted this summer by the organizations in Pontiac, Illinois. Crum was selected from nearly 400 eligible farmers.

“I gained a lot of knowledge attending the agronomy day, and interacting with the Golden Harvest and Precision Planting agronomists was pretty neat,” Crum said. “I was also very excited to discover I won. Free gifts are always nice.”

Stephanie Smith, a Golden Harvest agronomist in Indiana who led the event Crum attended, said Precision Planting was the perfect match for co-hosting an interactive agronomy series.

“Though Golden Harvest is in the seeds business and Precision Planting is dedicated to machinery technology, we both have the same goal of pushing the innovation envelope to help farmers be more profitable and maximize revenue,” Smith said.

The training sessions were hosted at the Precision Technology Institute, a 200-acre agronomic research site Precision Planting opened in 2018. The Pontiac field location enabled farmers to experience Precision Planting technologies and Golden Harvest products in a real-farm environment, offering a one-stop shop of agronomy takeaways.

“We recognize farmers don’t have time to attend seven or eight field days,” Smith said. “That’s why Golden Harvest and Precision Planting wanted to offer farmers a holistic, condensed setting to learn about how strategic management practices can increase return on investment.”

Golden Harvest and Precision Planting discussion topics encompassed seed selection, seed treatment, crop protection, fertility management and equipment technology. The agronomy principles covered row crop production from seed to harvest, all while taking into account the newly announced Saltro® fungicide seed treatment from Syngenta, premier digital placement tool E-Luminate®, and advanced agricultural machinery.

“Talking directly with corn and soybean farmers is always a highlight,” said Jason Webster, Precision Planting agronomist. “Each growing season is a fresh slate to start over and set new field records. By providing practical, effective ag technologies, our goal is to equip farmers with smarter tools that help their crops outperform expectations again and again.”

In addition to inviting farmers, the Golden Harvest Agronomy Days at Precision Planting were open to agronomists, Golden Harvest Seed Advisors, sales representatives and dealers from across the Midwest.

“Golden Harvest is very thankful to Precision Planting for the opportunity to work together,” Smith said. “Precision Planting is equipped with world-class research, and when we come together, we can offer farmers the best field day by showcasing how to implement top industry findings on their farms. We’re already looking forward to doing it again next year.”
